Born in 1922, Mr. S. YEGNESWARAN graduated in 1944 from Banaras Hindu
University. Joined Railways Coal Department in 1944. Secured Ist
Class Mine Manager's Certificate in 1951. Served in Railways and then Coal
Department Corporation till 1970 in various capacities.
Joined NMDC as Director in 1970.
Joined NLC as Chairman and Managing Director in 1972 December. He
served NLC in the very crucial period between 1972 to March '80. He
practically reviewed the Mine, six salvaging the machines out of the flooded
Mines. Only with his Herculean inputs, the Corporation started earning
profit from 1976 onwards. His greatest achievement was the commissioning of the
specialized Mining equipment worth Rs. 120 Crores, under Mine Expansion Scheme.
He was mainly responsible for getting sanction of Govt. Of India for Mine II and
Thermal Station II Projects the inauguration of which was done by the then
President in July 1979. He was responsible for the financial restructuring
of NLC for its betterment. The Fertilizer Plant was changed over to oil
gasification in July 1979 and the production of urea and coke improved in lot.
In short he metamorphosed the entire structure of NLC.
After a glorious period of serving NLC for 8 years, he retired from the
services in March 1980.
From 1980 to 1986 served as Consultant for several big engineering
From 1980 to 1987 served as Consultant for erection of Atomic Power Plant and
From 1898, he was Consultant to Coal India on the problem of Surplus Labour
in Coal Washeries.
